The Fugitives

The Fugitives, established in 2007, have released four records, which have been nominated for multiple Canadian Folk Music Awards and a Western Canadian Music Award. Their previous album, Everything Will Happen, spent ten weeks on the top ten Canadian folk charts, and earned them a support slot across Western Canada with Buffy Sainte-Marie and an appearance at UK’s Glastonbury Festival. Their follow-up, The Promise of Strangers, is set for release on January 26th on Borealis Records.

Ridge LIVE! Coming to theatres across BC in November

Finally, we are able to perform our theatre show, “Ridge”, live in person! We are coming to theatres across BC in November, as well as some very special performances in Guelph at the John McCrae memorial in early December. Check out our Shows page for details and see below for a show trailer as well as more info on the piece. See you soon!

Often called the "battle that made Canada," Vimy Ridge resulted in over 10,000 Canadian casualties. Through storytelling and live music, The Fugitives examine misconceptions and varying perspectives around the battle, while drawing parallels to other formative events in our nation’s past. The songs from Ridge, which are inventive musical interpretations of WWI soldier songs, were nominated for the 2022 JUNO for Best Traditional Roots Album. The script, written by Fugitive member Brendan McLeod, probes difficult yet necessary questions about how and why we grieve. A vivid, kinetic ride through history, as well as an intimate, personal examination of our connection to the past, Ridge is a visceral work that passionately argues against the exploitation of young lives.

JUNO Nomination!

We were absolutely honoured to be nominated for a 2022 JUNO Award for our Traditional Roots Album of the Year for Trench Songs and to be in amazing company with our fellow nominees!

Upcoming Tours

Amazing to believe that live music might be a thing again? Thanks to all who came out to our latest EU tour this fall! It was a blast to get out on the road again.

Our tour plans for 2022 are Western Canada this summer for normal band shows, as well as a tour of theatres in November doing Ridge. In 2023, we will be back to the UK in the summer, and back to the EU in the fall.

Dates will be posted soon HERE, or if you’d like to book us in one of these places, you can get the right person at the CONTACT page.

See you out on the road!
